About Us - a little bit about who we are

Deckard's Woodcrafters was established in the 1960's as "the Bix Service Company", a furniture stripping shop. In the 1970's new ownership and a new name "Deckard's Woodcrafters". Furniture refinishing and furniture repairs were added to the the shops list of services. After 15 years of professional woodworking and furniture refinishing elsewhere, I brought my experience in antique restoration, new furniture finishes, woodworking, building custom furniture and the other services listed on our "services page". Now, after 23 years in this craft, I am pleased to have our first website and I hope we can help make your house a home.

I started woodworking in 1985. For several years I was fortunate to have been taught by a few select woodworking and refinishing expert craftsmen. It was their willingness to teach me all they knew, along with: lots of practical experience, an unwillingness to say no to any new project, mixed with plenty of reading, research, asking questions, and a little bit of prayer that has allowed me to become the craftsman I am. Deckard's is Lafayette's oldest and most complete furniture refinishing, antique restoration, and woodworking shop. The majority of our customers are homeowners. However, we are not strangers to commercial contracts having done several large jobs for Purdue University, St. Elizabeth Hospital, The Union Building, St. Mary's Church, Sigma Chi and others.

Deckard's is a family owned business. We would be honored to help your family, as we turn your furniture into something your family will love and pass on from generation to generation.

Customer Comments:

Ann and Dudley Templeman We gave our son and his wife a piece of family history as a wedding gift. Unfortunately time had not been kind to my mother's antique secretary. After Deckard's Woodcrafter's finished you would have never known that it had been such a mess. Our son and daughter-in-law could not have been happier. We would not hesitate to use them again!

Sue M. Meiser My extended family members had some tattered old pieces of furniture in back rooms, attics, and basements for several generations. While many of the pieces of furniture had seen better days, they still seemed to have potential. My husband Glenn and I took several pieces, (some of them in pieces!) to Geoff Anderson to see what could be done. Geoff has extensive knowledge of antique furniture. He understands what needs to be done to restore the piece into a charming, historically accurate, and useful piece of furniture. We have been very pleased with Geoff's work, and we look forward to passing these restored pieces of furniture on to the next generation.

Steve We are very satisfied with Deckards and will return with any furniture/wood work we need done. Deckards communicated with us and completed the work on time without using shortcuts and it shows in the finished product. We had a table, 6 chairs, crown molding sanded and stained. Looks great !!
